EnterpriseDB is an enterprise class database server and much more.
It not only offers Oracle compatibility, it offers compatibility
with PostgreSQL and ANSI. EnterpriseDB includes everything an
enterprise RDBMS needs, including: replication, management tools,
developer tools, VLDB support and much more.
EnterpriseDB is here. It is full featured and a work in progress at
the same time. The goal is 100% compatibility. But the goal is
also to provide performance, data handling and a world-class
development environment.
For a
company writing and running PL/SQL applications, the issue is easy:
Oracle is expensive. It is sound business advice to occasionally
look at your business to see how you can save money. Even if you do
not already have applications written to run on Oracle, your staff,
the people who know the technical side of your business, are trained
and experienced using Oracle.
For a
developer, Remote DBA, or consultant, the issue is even easier: why
wouldn't you expand your skill set? Without the need to learn a new
language, wouldn't you like to add a new database to your resume or
offer your client better choices? If you are an experienced PL/SQL
developer, wouldn't you like to be able to be up and running with a
new, enterprise class database today?
EnterpriseDB provides all of that along with 24/7 support.
That
is why you want to choose EnterpriseDB.
The EnterpriseDB Platform
Part
of what makes EnterpriseDB useful is the platform it provides. That
platform is comprised of a database, various servers, management
tools, developer tools and the EnterpriseDB Network.
The
EnterpriseDB Network and EnterpriseDB.com is your entrance to the
world of EnterpriseDB. When you register on EnterpriseDB.com, you
join the EnterpriseDB Network which gives you access to additional
software as well as access to the support forums.
Registration is easy and free and you can also get 1 month of free
technical support. You will be given the opportunity to register
when you attempt to download the software or enter a discussion
forum for the first time.
The
EnterpriseDB Network will provide Remote DBAs and Developers with updates
about patches and bug fixes as well as new releases. The
EnterpriseDB Network is the way to stay in touch with EnterpriseDB
and a way to get in touch with other EnterpriseDB customers.
Registering also gives you access to the support forums and a month
of free email support.
I'm
not going to go into a lot of detail about the web site. It's easy
enough to get there and navigation is intuitive. I will briefly
describe the main areas of the site and give a few more details
about the areas I think are important.
Navigation is along the top (beneath the login link) and consists of
6 options (Figure 1.3).

Company: I like to check this link out occasionally and see who's on
