Provide
an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The employee being terminated, as well as any
other employees may require professional counseling prior, during, or
after any possible violence
occurs in the workplace.
Not only can an Employee Assistance Program
help individuals cope with violence that has
already manifested itself, but it can, in many cases, calm the persons
involved to prevent the violence.
Assistance programs such as this are essential
since according to a Roper Starch Worldwide polling survey, two-thirds
of employees indicated they would not discuss their personal problems
with the Human Resources
department, IT Managers, or any
other company representatives.
However, 87% of the employees responded that they
would use an EAP program if it was made available. It is important to
let employees know about this program since many employees often are
not aware of its existence.
