Using Object IDs (OIDs)
in Oracle 8
Oracle Tips by Mike Ault |
Summary
In this paper I have discussed the definition of
an Object ID (OID) shown how they are used and discussed their
limitations. Through script listings we have seen how to insert,
update, delete and query using REF, DEREF and VALUE functions
against an OID. OIDs are bringing pointers back into the database
realm. In some cases OIDs will speed access to data in others they
will add to the level of complexity in our applications. We must
take care to use them wisely.
