Data Warehouse Organizational Framework

The Data Warehouse Development Life Cycle
The Organizational Framework
The first step in organizing an Oracle data warehouse project is to
have the warehouse sponsor inform the line managers of their needs
for staff within each functional area. As each functional area
becomes staffed, inter-area communication is very important for the
effective development of the system. Many developers must be
familiar with concepts that are outside their functional areas, and
they must have the freedom to get the external information that they
require. For example, the Oracle developer may need Remote DBA information
from the Oracle Remote DBA, and the Oracle Remote DBA may need systems information
from the SAs. In general, the organizational hierarchy for the
project involves a traditional reporting structure, as shown in
Figure 2.4.
Figure 2.4 A sample reporting structure for a data warehouse
development team.
Note the relationship between the project manager and the project
sponsor in Figure 2.4. The project sponsor’s job is to facilitate
communications with all operational areas to ensure that the project
manager gets the resources they require in a timely fashion.

Data Warehousing".
